In short, yes. A passport book is considered the best form of identification for travel over to a passport card, REAL ID, or birth certificate. A passport card, REAL ID or birth certificate cannot be used for international air travel. This is why we only recommend acquiring a passport book. We also recommend that your passport be valid at least 6 months after your travel date. This is to ensure that in the event of an emergency during international travel, you can return to the United States easily.
